Discover the beautiful landscapes of Duinbergen
The Knokke-Heist region in Belgium is perhaps best known for its beautiful beaches and great landscapes. But in the heart of the region - right between Knokke and Heist - you will find Duinbergen. This little town is a glistening white gem just waiting to be discovered. It is a place filled to the brim and overflowing with charm, warmth and a great holiday atmosphere.
The most distinguishing characteristic of Duinbergen is the cheerful, white, old villas which make up the majority of the town. Until just a few years ago, it was obligatory for property owners to build their villas according to a certain style which has resulted in a charming village with a somewhat unique sense of style. Everywhere you go, you will be able to look up and see strong white-washed walls with barn-styled red roofs and dark wooden beams. Bay windows and sun rooms make best use of the beautiful scenery and warmish climate while turrets pop up here and there to add variety to the skyline. The small alleys make for a great place to stroll while the atmosphere is endlessly calming - the perfect holiday spot when you just want to relax and get away from it all.
While Duinbergen might be a place of peace and quiet, the calm is broken every year when the international fireworks festival takes place on nearby Alberstrand. It is held during the third week of August and starts on a Sunday. Every second day five different countries present a beautiful firework display to music as they via for the title of 'best fireworks display'. If you're in the region at the time, it's a definite must see!
