Edutainment at the Mall of America

Located in Bloomington, Minnesota, USA, the Mall of America is a shopper's paradise and entertainment destination that attracts more than 40 million visitors a year. Opened in 1992, the mall covers an area of 4.2 million square feet - the equivalent of seven Yankee Stadiums. More than 530 stores are situated on three levels bordering a rectangle courtyard, with a fourth level on the east side of the building. Two seven-story high parking ramps along with other parking areas can accommodate more than 15,000 cars. But it is the entertainment options at the Mall of America that hold the most attraction, particularly for families.

Set at the heart of the mall is Nickelodeon Universe – a unique theme park featuring acres of spectacular rides and entertainment options. Dubbed the 'Dutchman's Deck' the ultimate adventure course challenges visitors to walk the Ghostly Gangplank, traverse the Sky Trail ropes course, and taking the spiraling Anchor Drop to the ground. Thrill rides include Avatar Airbender, Brain Surge, Danny Phantom Ghost Zone, Jimmy Neutron's Atomic Collider, Fairly Odd Coaster, the Spongebob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge and the Splat-o-Sphere, while Family Rides include Crazy Cars, Carousel, Ghost Blasters and Log Chute. Rides for the younger members of the family include Backyardigans Swing-Along, Back at the Barnyard Hayride, Balloon Race and Blue's Skidoo.

The LEGO Store at the mall features a variety of play tables to encourage children to be imaginative and creative, while the giant Pick-a-Brick wall has 180 different LEGO elements to choose from. A 34-foot tall robot and other larger-than-life models show what can be done with a really huge LEGO collection.

The Minnesota SeaLife Aquarium at the Mall of America provides an exciting edutainment experience with more than 10,000 sea creatures on display, including jellyfish, sea turtles, seahorses and sharks. Interactive games and activities include touch pools, a play area and a quiz trail. The Atlantis Temple has a 300-foot long Ocean Tunnel which offers a spectacular view of the aquarium's Giant Green Sea Turtle, while Ray Lagoon features a variety of stingrays with special viewing bubbles for kids to get a closer look.

Other attractions at the Mall of America include the A.C.E.S Flight Simulator, Amazing Mirror Maze, Moose Mountain Adventure Golf, Build-a-Bear Workshop and fourteen theaters with digital sound and images, as well as 3D capabilities and D-BOX motion seating. Enjoy!
