FRIGID New York – Something a Little Different
FRIGID New York is an independent theater festival presented by Horse TRADE in association with EXIT Theater. As a CAFF (Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals) member, FRIGID New York has adopted the CAFF goal of providing all artists with the opportunity to present their work to the public, irrespective of the content, form or style. They also strive to make the festival as accessible and affordable as possible for members of the community to enjoy. FRIGID New York will run from 27 February through to 9 March 2008 at The Kraine Theater, The Red Room and Under St. Marks, New York City and kicks off the annual North American Fringe Circuit.
“American Badass” is a solo performance of a multiple-character assessment of the state of the world as America enters another round of election campaigning. “The Burning Bush Part Two – In the Bush” is a sequel to last year’s performance by the Stripping Rabbi who is on a mission to save souls - one lap dance at a time. “Diary of a Mad Fashionista” sees the most feared woman in fashion giving her views on fashion, love and abusing the help. “Fool for a Client” tells the story of the world’s greatest vacuum cleaner salesman who is facing 225 years in Federal prison. He represents himself at his trial, only to find that everyone there is selling a vacuum cleaner.
“Modern Medieval” is the tale of a contemporary jester who travels back in time to help his audience to learn about the present, with political and social satire being the order of the day. “Preparation Hex” is a monologue along the lines of dark comedy, which discusses matters of universal importance – hemorrhoids, obsession, fear and finding the love of your life. “Whence Came Ye Scarlett O’Hara O’Hanrahan” is the most unusual story of a young black woman who was raised in a remote Irish town. Upon discovering she is adopted, she embarks on a journey to the Bronx in a quest to find her birth mother.
The off-beat performances offered by FRIGID New York have been well received by audiences in the past. With a line-up aimed at pure entertainment, the organizers are confident that audiences will be thrilled with FRIGID New York 2008.
