Fun and Adventure at Disneyland Paris
Located in Marne-la-Vallée, around 32 kilometers from the Paris city center, Disneyland Park opened in April 1992, later expanding to include Walt Disney Studios Park, with the two parks becoming the most visited themed attractions in Paris and all of Europe. Around fifteen-and-a half-million people visit the two parks each year. The layout and attractions are modeled on the hugely successful Disneyland complexes in Anaheim, California, and Bay Lake, Florida.
Disneyland Park features five themed areas with almost fifty attractions. A replica of the fairytale castle from Sleeping Beauty, Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant, is at the center of the park, with the five 'lands' branching out around it like the spokes of a wheel. Main Street, USA, features the Disneyland Railroad and the Main Street Station, along with City Hall, Liberty Arcade and Discovery Arcade, as well as horse-drawn streetcars. The narrow-gauge Disneyland Railroad offers visitors the opportunity to climb on board and take a circular tour of the park, or to use it as hop-on-hop-off transport to other areas of the park.
In Frontierland, visitors can get a taste of what it was like for pioneers as they made their way inland in the 'Wild West' days of the history of the USA. Among the interesting features of this part of Disneyland Park is Big Thunder Mountain, complete with a mine train roller coaster, and Phantom Manor which, as the name suggests, is haunted. Frontierland also features the Chaparral Theater, Woody's Roundup Villas and Pocohontas Indian Village.
Discoveryland has a science-fiction theme, with the Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, Autopia, Videopolis, Star Tours and Space Mountain: Mission 2 among its many features. Adventureland includes Aladdin's Enchanted Passage, the Swiss Family Treehouse, Pirates of the Caribbean and Adventure Isle, While Fantasyland features Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, the Dragon's Lair, Lancelot's Carousel, Pinocchio and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The Walt Disney Studios Park is run separately from the Disneyland Park, and is focused on behind-the-scenes and other activities relating to the production of movies. Inspired by much-loved Disney and Pixar animated characters, Toon Studio has a number of exciting attractions, including Flying Carpets Over Agrabah, Crush's Coaster, Toy Soldier Parachute Drop, Slinky Dog Zig Zag Spin and the Art of Disney Animation.
There are various options visitors can choose from depending on the ages of the children and other factors. Families with toddlers will be directed to what is most appropriate for that age-group, while adventure seekers will also find what they are looking for. Be sure to check out the Disneyland Paris Website before your visit.
