Join in the Vibrant Celebrations of the Nice Carnival
To enjoy the endless energy and contagious atmosphere of carnival celebrations in France, visitors to the country of romance should book their trip between the 16th of February 2008 and the 2nd of March 2008, as these are the dates for the 2008 Nice Carnival. For ten days, the streets of Nice come to life with color, music and celebrations, to welcome locals and visitors to the most exciting and breathtaking carnival in France. Its innovative annual festival themes, attractions and thrilling activities, lure thousands of festival attendees to the Nice Carnival each year.
The Nice Carnival has been celebrated for centuries, and is a festival that brings joy and excitement to the city for ten consecutive days. Throughout the history of the carnival, music has played a vital role, and the colorful and vibrant floats that form part of the parades started in 1877. Initially, the floats were created to be moving stages, with bands playing their festive tunes on the terraces of the floats, and gigantic marionettes dancing to every beat and rhythm. It was found that the floats, with musicians performing on them, would increase the volume and unique sound of every instrument in the ensemble. In later years, the floats took on different shapes and sizes and became the focal point of imagination, dancing, bands and parades.
Each year the activities and attractions are planned to compliment the theme for the festival. This year, legendary characters will be brought to life as the theme for the 2008 Nice Festival is ‘Roi des Ratapignatas, Raminagrobis et autres ramassis de Rats masques’, meaning the “King of Bats, Cats, Rats and other Legendary Creatures”. Visitors to the carnival can expect to see breathtaking flower parades, enormous paper Mache puppets, impressive fireworks displays, hip swinging concerts, creative floats and a crowd of enthusiastic festival goers.
Many visitors make use of their time at the festival to investigate the rest of the city, to take in the sights and attractions, while enjoying the magical spirit and mood that is created by the carnival. Nice is filled with captivating museums, quaint shops along old streets and restaurants that serve the most exquisite local cuisine.
Between the parades, celebrations and the warm, friendly local hospitality, visitors will find the Nice Carnival to be an unforgettable event. The joy that the carnival brings locals and international guests is contagious, and convinces most of those in attendance to return to the Nice Carnival every year.
