Los Angeles’ Prestigious AFI Fest

The AFI (American Film Institute) Fest is an annual event that is takes place in Los Angeles, and this year the festival began on 1 November and will come to an end on 11 November 2007. It is a film festival of significant proportions and is attended by the leading international filmmakers from all the corners of the globe. For one week in November, Los Angeles comes alive with celebrities and a world-class collection of films that can be viewed throughout the festival.

The first AFI Fest was held in 1987 and has since grown into a calendar event for directors, producers, actors and everyone involved in the film making industry. Between gala events, competitions and conferences, there will be hundreds of films running at the chosen venues. This exposes the most recent films to the public and to others in the industry. Films that are showcased at the AFI Fest are entered into various categories such as documentaries, short films, feature films and narrative.

Attending the film festival doesn’t just give visitors the opportunity to view some of the best work in the world, but also catch a glimpse of internationally known celebrities. In previous years, the AFI Fest, hosted by Audi, has welcomed big names such as Sean Penn, Orlando Bloom, Penelope Cruz, Jack Nicholson, Kevin Spacey, Anthony Hopkins, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jodie Foster, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Reese Witherspoon, Jude Law, Andy Garcia, Johnny Depp, George Clooney and Joaquin Phoenix onto its red carpet, and this only naming a few.

This year, audiences can look forward to a gripping line-up films such as ‘American Fork’, a 94 minute American film. Norway has entered ‘The Art of Negative Thinking’ into the Feature competition, with the Mexican ‘Atenco, A Crime of State’ being a seventy minute documentary. World Cinema Showcase films include the ‘Blind Mountain’ from China, ‘The Band’s Visit’ from Israel and ‘Nosaltres’ from Senegal. Audiences should also be on the look out for films such as ‘Honeydripper’, ‘Happy Desert’, ‘Terrorizer’ and many more magical screenings.

The AFI Fest for 2007 promises to be a festival filled with excitement and glamour, as it has been in the years before. Its interactive and educational meetings open the doors to new relationships and opportunities for networking. This magnificent film festival is internationally acclaimed and has been the venue for many power meetings and exchange programs. Exposure to a global market allows filmmakers to view new technology and hopefully gain inspiration for their next project.
