Unhappy

The UN ambassador of Saudi Arabia finished exactly a speech and goes outdoors in the lobby where he meets President Bush. They shake the hands and continue together as the Saudi asks : "You know, I have a question because of something, that I saw in America. President Bush says: "Now, your eminence whatever I can do for you, I want to do it gladly". the Saudi whispers: "my son saw these "star Trek" series, and there are Russians, blacks and Asians in it, but no Arabs. He is very infuriated about it. He doesn't understand why there in the Star Trek are no Arabs in."
President Bush laughs, leans against the Saudi in more detail along and whispers back: "This therefore comes because it plays in the future.........

Presumable as it is also set in space, this is because Earth has become uninhabitable ? If only Dubya had signed the Kyoto protocol

Now, there's a topic worthy of debate.

The Kyoto Protocol!

And no, Revolution, it is NOT funny.

And there are people who kidnap little children....

....and do terrible things to them.

They are bad people in this world, Rev. Anyone who thinks a "joke" whose punchline is the total annihilation of a race or ethnic group of people is funny is a bad person. No debate about that.

No one thought Hitler was funny. Now, Jasper, dear, don't come in here with Springtime for Hitler and Mel Brooks' movie, The Producers. It was hilarious, but you and I know what Rev is talking about.

"Jokes" like this one are just malicious.

True, but such jokes reveal something that is normally suppressed in normal life, that is, I understood that it is not funny for what it really says.

My comment was meant in the same ironic context.

We want to see an end to all Arabs or Jews, but feel the publice expression of such a sentiment is 'unacceptable' so we shield it in a joke. Look at many jokes and you will find the dark underbelly of public consciousness.

hey...
are you really starting to argue about jokes????

concerning consciousness:
I don't care about some types of "human" for me there is no problem if the jews, arabs, american, or bush exist... I just have a problem wiht wars...

and the joke that bush (therefore amis) will set an end to arabs is only too heavy...

of course there are other awful jokes... you could tell others if you want...

And I most certainly agree with you....

....but then I almost always do. It's just that when you ARE the race or ethnicity that the joke slurs and disparages,it is very, very hard to be so rational. Think about it, Jasper. How many jokes have you heard that revel in the thought of all Brits going down in the Atlantic?

None, although I expect there are many.

But an interesting point- why are there none ? Either a) because no one here repeats them or b) because it is unacceptable to make fun of your Lords and Masters ?

I guess perhaps both (argument (b) fails with the US though) apply to a degree. But in humour we find the unacceptable served in a way to make it less so, in fact, to make an unacceptable way of thinking become 'the acceptable' way of thinking, but without noticing just what is being advocated. (This is nothing new, Freud described the same in 'Humour and it's relation to the Unconscious'). So we can laugh about the anhilation of Arabs so that when it filters through and almost becomes a part of foreign policy, no one even challanges it.

or you heard them and forget them quickly...
psychologs say even you only hear and see things which you want
another explanation would be these jokes are all real...
so nobody felts offend to post them here

No but with repsect, Revolution, that is because it is aimed at the very people who will not see it as a joke. (I am not supporting this !). But people do laugh. We have many comedian here who make revolting sexist and racist jokes and think the excuse 'people laugh' justifies them. What I was pointing out (and you first reply hits this exactly when you explain we remember only what we want to hear) when such things are able to enter a culture and 'hidden' in the way of a joke, they become acceptable.

If someone was to say 'lets kill all the Arabs' there would be justifiable outrage, but disguise it in a joke, and over time people will accept such thinking as 'acceptable' or excuse it by saying 'it's only a joke' and therefore excuse the underlying message, which as Niq and you have both pointed out, is far from funny.

And I did not laugh, and I ASSURE YOU, Jasper did not laugh.

But, Rev, YOU posted it here. Had it not been for this thread, I doubt that I would have ever heard it.

Why? Because anyone who knows me, knows they put the well-being of their nose in jeopardy if they told me a "joke" like that.

So, please don't post those hateful sentiments anymore. Besides, there isn't one decent person who is going to come on line and disagree with you.

I do myself a lot jokes... even telling jokes is not my business.
and for myself there is a borderline...
and I don't have to find everything which is called joke funny...
and this was an example which I don't find funny..
that's all.

No ! Don't delete it, it is a good example of something we may accept is innocent fun and fail to see what the real message is.

You were right to post it, it's just sometimes it's hard to tell (given this is all in writing and you cannot see the person telling the 'joke') if it was meant as a joke or not (one of the problems of the internet).

I think this has raised some interesting points, and that is what is most important here
