Royal Ballet bound for US shores
7-1-2004 The Danish Royal Ballet will take center stage at Washington's Kennedy Center for the first time in over a decade For the first time since 1992, the Danish Royal Ballet has been invited to perform for a weeklong engagement at Washington's Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the largest cultural center on the US East Coast outside of New York. The Royal Ballet will perform Bournonville's classic "Napoli" and "The Sylphide," together with Harald Lander's "Etudes." Seven performances are scheduled for the Kennedy Center from 13 January. Princess Alexandra will be on hand for the opening performance. In mid-November, stage sets and costumes were sent to the US on seven container ships. This weekend, 73 dancers, 20 technicians, eight students, four choreographers, and two directors will depart for Washington. The performance is part of a larger Danish culture expo in Washington, which includes the ongoing exhibition of Eckersberg paintings at the National Gallery of Art. A Danish film festival is scheduled for Washington later this month. http://www.cphpost.dk |
