Explore the historical city of Rome
Rome is a city of immense beauty. Its older, cobbled streets and marble sculptures echo timeless perfection. The modern city still presents itself as a masterpiece of modern living. Rome was once the epicenter of the Roman Empire - a world power that stretched and expanded to most of the then known world. It is clear, as you walk the streets and glance up at beautiful buildings, that Rome is the epitome of style, grace and functionality.
Most people come to Rome to see the sights - and it's no wonder with attractions like the Colosseum, the Forum, the Arch of Constantine, the Circo Massimo and the Pantheon. The Pantheon was built by Hadrian and is one of the best preserved remains of ancient Rome. The Palazzo Nuovo and the Palazzo dei Conservatori make up the Capitoline Museums - some of the world's oldest public museums. The two house excellent examples of sculpture and art. Another site worth visiting is the Piazza del Campidoglio which was originally designed by the much acclaimed Michelangelo but took over a century to complete.
The Quirinale and Tridente are also very popular sites - Quirinale being most famous for the Trevi Fountain which was featured in the movie 'La Dolce Vita'. The Villa Borghese, a lush park complete with a boating lake, is the perfect place to unwind. The estate once belonged to the Borghese family and two of the buildings on the property now house magnificent works of art - both local and international. There are quite a few piazzas at the Villa Borghese and each has their own tale to be enjoyed.
Another immensely popular attraction is the Vatican. Independent from the rest of Rome, the Vatican governs life under its own rules and regulations. However, inside you will find St Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Gardens and Bernini's Piazza. Artworks such as Michelangelo's Pieta and his painting on the roof of the Sistine Chapel are a wonder to see. Regardless of who you are, the splendor of Rome is bound to captivate you and live with you for the rest of your life.
