Not far from Punta Beté you will find the charming port town of Playa del Carmen. While the place has suffered slightly at the hands of rapid growth, it still has a pretty beach and great diving and deep-sea fishing facilities. It also has a ferry which runs between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel and makes for a great day trip of you are visiting Cozumel.
To the average visitor, Playa del Carmen will be nothing more than a place to spend a day. However one thing you will not find here is high-rise glass-filled hotels since the local municipality has gone through great lengths to ensure that the town maintains its fishing village charm.
Besides making use of the many water-orientated activities that are on offer here, many also enjoy walking Fifth Avenue and browsing the boutiques, shops, bars and restaurants. There is an unusually large number of people from Italy, Argentina, the US, France, Canada and Spain who are living and working here. This lends the town a delightful cosmopolitan atmosphere that is very enjoyable. After enjoyed your Playa del Carmen holiday, you may well understand why all these people have made their home here.
