Spanish Cuisine

Spain’s history is steeped in a maritime culture that is still evident today, and is therefore a country that has a strong focus on seafood dishes when it comes to cuisine. Of course, various cultures have also influenced their recipes in different ways, but Spain has been known for its healthy food and locals prefer using fresh ingredients and herbs in all their dishes. What makes the cuisine of this country even more exciting is the fact that it varies from region to region, allowing visitors to enjoy a cuisine extravaganza as they travel through the various destinations of Spain.

Visitors to Spain will find that the locals have a fondness for peppers, cured ham, saffron spice, wines and garlic, and these ingredients are often found in their dishes. One of the most distinctive cuisine districts in Spain is considered to be Cataluna where meats and seafood are generally combined with fruit; while the Asturias region has become famous for their blue cheese and bean dishes. Uniquely flavored fish pies and scallops can be enjoyed in the northwestern region of Spain and squid, baby eels and fish soup are the specialties of the Basque region.

Even though each region in Spain has its own unique flavor and dishes that are associated with them, great seafood can be enjoyed throughout the country. The traditional dishes and the extensive knowledge that locals have of seafood, guarantees that visitors can look forward to a world of good food and memorable cuisine that is enhance by wonderful Spanish wine-sherry and warm hospitality.
