Switzerland's Davos became known through the recommendations of doctors. The microclimate of the high valley was considered perfect for those with lung disease. In 1899 Arthur Doyle published an article on skiing in Davos. Thomas Mann set his novel "The Magic Mountain" in a sanatorium in Davos.

Since then, Davos has proved to be a popular ski resort and has established itself as a leading tourist destination. The resorts of Davos and Klosters include the skiing areas of Parsenn/Gotschna, Pischa, Schalzalp, Jakobshorn and Rinerhorn. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy more than 300km of runs with over 50 ski lifts at the Davos ski resort. There are about 75km of cross country tracks which are lit up for skiing at night. Many daily excursions, telemark courses and playgrounds are available. Davos is the biggest ski resort in Switzerland and is acclaimed as Europe's highest city. Klosters attracts the British Royal family to its snowy slopes. Davos is also known for its other winter sports such as ice hockey, ice skating, winter hiking, curling and more.

Besides being a world-class ski resort, Davos also has a notable historical heritage. In Davos Dorf you will come across the St. Theodulus church. Discover the long-standing burgher's house called Old Prebend House where a museum is now housed. The fascinating Gemeindehaus was constructed in 1643.

At the Davos Local History Museum you can examine a shoemaker's workshop and post-office carriage as well as an exhibition providing details on the tuberculosis sanatoriums. Also on display is furniture, tools and clocks. The Mining Museum and Silver Collection in Davos exhibits ores, minerals and mining equipment. You will find the glow-in-the-dark mineral display most interesting. Artworks by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner can be observed at the museum bearing his name. The Alpinum Schatzalp is a botanical garden containing approximately 10 000 plants of 1 300 species from around the world.

Visit Switzerland's Davos during the Davos Festival when international and local rising musicians perform for the public. "Davos Sounds Good" is an international Jazz festival featuring some of Jazz's most outstanding musicians.
