Enjoy the lively city of Montana, Switzerland
Montana is a village which forms part of the Crans Montana ski resort in the centre of the Swiss Alps. From these slopes you can gaze at the absolute splendor of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Crans Montana was made famous in 1987 when the Alpine World Cup was organized there. Situated at 1 494m the twin resort is noted for being in one of the sunniest spots in the Valais. Montana is the older side having been founded in 1892.
Crans Montana compares with the upper-market Verbier and St.Moritz and has boasts some of the finest shopping. Crans Montana is actually made up of three villages. These are: Montana, Crans-sur-Sierre and Aminona with no definite boundaries. This Ski resort tends to be more about the social life than the skiing itself. However, skiing can be enjoyed all year round on the Plaine Morte glacier. Skiing takes place by way of five gondolas at the foot of the mountain. Most runs are blues and reds. Above Monatana skiers can wind their way through the trees. These wooded slopes are an advantage in bad weather. An excellent series of cross-country trails services those seeking adventure.
Other winter activities in Montana include snowboarding and hiking.
Summer activities in the area include golf, tennis, mountain biking, hiking and other mountain related pursuits.
Beside the skiing activity in Montana, the area is also renowned for hosting the annual European Masters golf tournament in September. This fantastic golf course with its spectacular backdrop was redesigned in 1999. The design is by no means easy as the upturned-saucer greens have frustrated many a player.
Take a break from the slopes and engage in some shopping at many of the designer boutiques located throughout Crans Montana. Relax at one of the spas or wellness centers. In the evening get caught up in Montana's vibrant nightlife.
Montana is truly a village of diversity, filled with good times all set in a beautiful panorama of glistening white.
